Report on the Seminar on Human and Civil Rights

Participant: Maged Soroor, Executive Director for One World Institution for Development and Civil Society Care.

Date:
4-16 March 2007

Report :

The 12-day training that started on the 4th of March and ended on Thursday the 16th of March 2007 about human and civil rights and their connection to liberalism was mainly characterized by a broad representation from all countries seeking reform, be it political or economic, and which are experiencing similar circumstances.

There were trainees from 5 Latin American countries, 5 former Soviet Union states, 5 Asian countries, 4 African countries, and 3 Middle Eastern countries. This cultural diversity was one of the major advantages of training; each participating country represented the culture and background thereof.

Moreover, this cultural diversity also revealed the great deal of similarity among all participants in terms of the issues and the problems.

Training Methodology:

The training methodology was unique. The training was comprised of a short presentation (background session about the topic), followed by division into smaller groups whose members are changed with every new task, then these groups present their results to all the participants.

Training Themes:

Training themes focused on issues related to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the universality of human, civil, and political rights; private property; liberal thinking; freedom of belief; and the right to education.

Training Venue:

The International Academy for Leadership was fully equipped for receiving the participants in terms of logistics as well as technical and technological readiness, and distinguished accommodation.
The training program was characterized with sound organization, gradual development, as well as full coverage of the topics on the agenda. Also, it was very clear that all the trainees were keen on completing the training successfully.

Notes:

There was a very clear effort by the work group from FNST regional office in Cairo, who were very helpful in solving certain issues that came up during the trip, and I felt them closer to me than the team in Germany.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to FNST for allowing me the opportunity to take this distinguished training, and I am looking forward to more cooperation in the future.
