Report :

Participating in the online seminar “Liberalism Today: Freedom First” has been an enlightening experience that exceeded my expectations, it was educational yet also motivational and inspiring to see so many people from other countries and other continents working actively for the same cause, I felt as an Egyptian liberal activist that I was not alone, or liberals in Egypt are generally not alone and detached as we sometimes used to feel by our political reality, but that we belong also in a wider circle that supports our cause.

It is very useful to network with other people who are supportive of the same realm of thoughts and visions; the seminar has been empowering. It also gave me more confidence that there are liberals out there who know what liberalism is and are very concerned with explaining it for what it really is without being held back by political correctness that has compromised liberalism over the past decades in Egypt by trying to make it more fit for our society which helped neither liberalism nor our society.

Here in Egypt, liberalism has been given many definitions. These are not only incompatible with it, but even contradictory to the core of liberalism. Therefore, it is reassuring to finally deal with a liberal organization like Friedrich Naumann Foundation that comprehends the dire need of taking us liberal activists to the definitions and literature of liberalism.

I have joined several international seminars, but it’s a relief to finally find one that does not compromise the meaning of liberalism under the impression of spreading it. It was great insight and also great fun to be part of the online seminar.
